HYDERABAD: In a disturbing incident in Gollapalli village, Nallabelli mandal, Warangal district, elderly residents were forced to part with their pension money to pay taxes by the local panchayat secretary. The deductions, made during the festive season, have sparked outrage among the pensioners.

The pensioners reported that the secretary withheld a portion of their pension, citing house and water taxes as the reason. Despite their requests to delay the tax collection, especially during the festival period, the secretary refused to listen. Some of the elderly even suggested collecting the taxes from their children, but their appeals were ignored.

The pensioners expressed frustration, pointing out that the government had promised to increase their pensions, but instead, they were left with reduced funds during a time of celebration. They questioned why the taxes were being collected now, given that three months remained for the payments to be due.

This has left the elderly feeling helpless, with many voicing their disappointment over being deprived of their meagre pension during such a critical time.
