TIRUMALA: In the wake of the Srivari laddu prasadam adulteration incident, the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) began conducting a Shanti Homam in the temple's Yagashala for purification.

The ritual, which began at 6 AM, included procedures like Patra Shuddhi (purification of utensils), Yantra Shuddhi (purification of machinery), and Sthala Shuddhi (purification of the site), followed by Panchagavya Prokshanam.

Eight priests, along with three Agama advisors, are overseeing the Maha Krathu, which is being performed near the Vimana Prakaram with three Homagundams (sacrificial fire pits). The priests will also carry out Samprokshanam (a purification ritual) at all counters in the temple. Following the Vastu Yagam, the premises of the laddu preparation areas and sales counters will undergo Vastu Shudhi.

TTD officials, including EO Shyamala Rao and Additional EO Venkayya Chowdary, participated in the purification rituals. According to Shyamala Rao, the issue with the laddu prasadam stemmed from a defect in the ghee used, and the homam is being performed as an act of penance.

Temple priests stated that the Shanti Homam was arranged to remove all impurities and clear doubts surrounding the temple's sacred offerings. After the Homam, all the temple premises, including the inner sanctum, will undergo Panchagavya Prokshanam for further purification.
