Candidates Profile

Ahmed Bin Abdullah Balala (AIMIM)

He was born on 22-10-1967 in Charminar. In 1984, he completed his schooling from St. Pauls High School in Himayatnagar. Balala then started his political career as a student leader and as a member of the AIMIM. He first won the Malakpet seat in 2009 by defeating the TDP’s Md. Muzaffar Ali Khan. He then retained the seat in the 2014 and 2018 polls.

Teegala Ajith Reddy (BRS)

He is popular for his social service, but he is relatively not strong politically. Though he secured the BRS nomination for the 2023 Assembly elections, he is grappling ith the election in the constituency, as the Muslim vote which is ore than 55 per cent in the constituency is in favour of the AIMIM. He has the same surname of Maehswaram BRS leader and former ML Teegala Krishna Reddy However, both of them were not related.

Shaikh Akbar (Congress)

He was born in 1980 in Vanasthalipuram and is a native of Nalgonda district. He completed his graduation from Nizam college and post-graduation from AV college. He has risen up the ranks of the Congress from being a grassroots-level cadre to now being nominated for a ticket by the party for the Malakpet constituency.

Samreddy Surender Reddy (BJP)

Surender Reddy was born on October 16, 1964 in Saidabad. In 1982, he established his business in the electronics sector, known as Preethi Enterprises, located in Musheerabad. He has been part of the RSS and was appointed as BJP convener of the Malakpet Assembly constituency in 2016.

Constituency information

Geography:

Malakpet constituency was one of the largest Assembly segments in Hyderabad before the 2009 delimitation exercise. Post the delimitation, Malakpet was broken and few segments/areas joined in with Ibrahimpatnam, Maheshwaram, and LB nagar constituencies. There are six GHMC divisions under the constituency, namely: Saidabad, Moosarambagh, Old Malakpet, Akbarbagh, Chawani, Dabeerpura and Azampura.

Background:

In the 15 elections held for the constituency, the Congress won six times, BJP three times, Janata Party once, PDF once, TDP once and the AIMIM thrice since 2009. Presently dominated by the AIMIM, the constituency has a majority Muslim population of 60 per cent.

2014 election analysis

Balala maintained his stronghold on the Malakpet constituency, clinching victory with 58,976 votes. B Venkat Reddy of the BJP stood second with 35,713 votes.

2018 election analysis

The candidate for the 2018 elections from the BJP was A Jeetendra, son of senior BJP leader Ale Narendra. He defeated Mohd Muzaffar Ali Khan of the TDP in 2018 by a huge margin of 23,512 votes.
