2014 Assembly constituency analysis

Telangana sentiment was crucial in the 2014 Assembly elections. The entire election was held on this ground, and the TRS used it as a key election tool.

Telangana sentiment played a crucial role in the victory of the TRS in Nagarkurnool. The success of TRS in Nagarkurnool was attributed to numerous factors.

The Telangana movement peaked in 2012, and Nagam was elected as an independent with the help of the Telangana movement and agitators.

Marri joined the TRS and participated in the 2014 elections, where a 2012 by-election significantly aided him in becoming an MLA. As a businessman and owner of shopping malls, he significantly invested in elections in 2014.

In 2014, his victory was largely attributed to his services, marriage charities, and the provision of water tankers and other service-oriented programs. The main reason for this was the weak candidates from opposition parties.

Kuchukulla Damodar Reddy from the Congress and Nagam Shashidhar Reddy from the BJP were both involved in the political landscape in the 2014 elections.

BJP candidate, a newcomer and son of Nagam Janardhan Reddy, faced opposition from Kuchukulla Damodar Reddy, who was critical of his positions and works.

Despite being a former ZP chairman and ex-MLC, many people believed that he did nothing to help the development of this constituency.

Marri Janaradhan, a financially strong newcomer lost in the bypoll but was re-elected as MLA due to the Telanagana sentiment TRS wave.

2018 Assembly constituency analysis

TRS govrnment's welfare schemes such as pensions, Kalyana lakshmi, and Rythu Bandhu were implemented, and many developmental works were completed at the constituency level. Kesamudram lake became the second tank bund, a new market yard was built, and 72 hectares of land were irrigated through Kalwakurthy and other irrigation projects.

All BT roads from every mandal centre to the village were successfully built. MLAs' personal charities, such as providing drinking water to water-scarce villages and funding 1,001 marriages for poor people through the MGR trust, helped him win.

The MLA's public accessibility and resolution of issues were crucial, with the Gudipally canal, a new irrigation water source built after 2014, contributing to his 2018 victory.

Current Situation

The long pending demand for a mini stadium and small culvert construction.

The newly formed municipality is facing severe challenges, with funds being misused improperly, and MLA followers and the TRS activists engaging in illegal and corruption activities.

Key local issues

  • Mini-stadium
  • Not completion of the other side of the Gudipally canal, to reach the Kalwakurthy, lift irrigation water to the last village.
  • Karvena water reservoir
  • Roads, drains and basic infrastructure in villages
