Dr Jitender appointed as Telangana DGP

Dr Jitender, the first DGP appointed by the Congress Government and his tenure as DGP is expected to last 14 months.

HYDERABAD: Senior IPS officer Dr Jitender has been appointed Director General of Police (DGP) of Telangana, effective Wednesday. He is the first DGP appointed by the Congress Government in Telangana, succeeding Ravi Gupta, who has been posted as Special Chief Secretary to the Government, Home Department.

After his appointment, Dr. Jitender called on Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy and thanked him for showing confidence in him.

Dr. Jitender previously served as the Home Department's Principal Secretary and Director General of Vigilance and Enforcement. Hailing from a farming family in Jalandhar, Punjab, he is a 1992 batch IPS officer selected for the AP cadre. His career includes roles as ASP in Nirmal, Additional SP in Bellampally, and SP in the Naxal-influenced districts of Mahabubnagar and Guntur. He also served with the Greyhounds and Delhi CBI from 2004 to 2006.

He was promoted to DIG and managed the Visakhapatnam range and later the Warangal range. Dr Jitender has held positions as Additional Commissioner of Traffic in Hyderabad, Additional DGP of Law and Order, and DG of the Prisons Department.

His tenure as DGP is expected to last 14 months, concluding in September next year.
