HYDERABAD: Former minister Dr G Chinna Reddy has been appointed the vice-chairman of Telangana State Planning Board.

According to orders issued by Chief Secretary Santhi Kumar on Saturday, the appointment would be effective immediately, and Dr Chinna Reddy would get the rank of a Cabinet Minister.

Born on June 1, 1955, in Jayanna Tirumalapur village, Gopalpet Mandal, Wanaparthy district, Telangana, Dr. Chinna Reddy excelled academically, securing the top position in MSc (Agriculture) from AP Agriculture University in 1978. He later earned his PhD in Agriculture from Universiti Pertanian Malaysia in 1989 and completed his LLB from Osmania University in 2000. Dr. Chinna Reddy has contributed significantly to agriculture and related fields, with numerous research papers published.

Having entered politics during his student days, Dr Chinna Reddy served as the President of the Students Union at Zilla Parishad High School, Wanaparthy, in 1966-67. Subsequently, he joined the Congress party and held the position of General Secretary of AP Youth Congress from September 1980 to February 1983.

Dr Chinna Reddy had an extensive political career, serving as an MLA for four terms from the Wanaparthy Assembly constituency. His tenure includes representation from 1989-1994, 1999-2004, 2004-2009, and 2014-2018.

In the recent Assembly elections, the Congress party opted not to field Dr Chinna Reddy from the Wanaparthy seat, replacing him with Tudi Megha Reddy.
