Jishnu Dev Varma sworn in as Governor of Telangana

Jishnudev Varma, former Deputy CM of Tripura, took oath as the Governor of Telangana on Wednesday at a ceremony held at Raj Bhavan.

HYDERABAD: Jishnu Dev Varma took the oath as the Governor of Telangana on Wednesday.

mony was held at Raj Bhavan, where Chief Justice of Telangana High Court, Justice Alok Aradhe, administered the oath of office. Following the ceremony, Chief Minister Revanth Reddy and Justice Alok Aradhe extended their congratulations to the new Governor with floral bouquets.

The event was attended by Union Minister G Kishan Reddy, Legislative Council Chairman Gutta Sukhender Reddy, Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka, and several other ministers. The dignitaries, including Kishan Reddy, also presented floral bouquets to Governor Varma as a gesture of goodwill. Subsequently, the Governor received the ceremonial guard of honor from the police.

Jishnu Dev Varma, who has now assumed the role of Governor, served as the Deputy Chief Minister of Tripura from 2018 to 2023. He has also held the position of President of the Badminton Association of India. A member of the Tripura royal family, Varma joined the BJP in 1990 during a challenging period for the party, particularly during the Ram Janmabhoomi movement. He has since been an active and significant figure within the party.

In the Tripura government, Varma held several ministerial portfolios, including Electricity, Rural Development, Panchayati Raj, Finance, Planning, Science and Technology, and Environment. His appointment as Governor of Telangana was decided by the BJP-led central government.
