2 die as boat capsizes in Avuku reservoir in Nandyal district

NANDYAL: Two persons drowned while another was missing after a boat carrying 13 passengers capsized in Avuku Thimmaraju reservoir of Nandyal district on Sunday. The other 10 persons were rescued by the authorities and local people.

According to reports, 13 tourists, including two infants, were on a boat ride in Avuku Thimmaraju reservoir as part of their tour. The boat which looked steady till a certain distance suddenly overturned as water entered it, resulting in the drowning of the passengers.

Receiving information, the police along with the other officials reached the spot and carried out rescue operations. The authorities rescued 11 persons and brought them ashore. However, two women, Ashabee (28) and Noorjahan (37), died after they were shifted to a hospital. The remaining persons were undergoing treatment.

Meanwhile, the girl who went missing is identified as Shahjeeda and the officials are continuing the search operation for her.
