KAKINADA: In a ghastly road accident, six women workers were killed on the spot while seven others sustained grievous injuries after a private bus collided with an auto rickshaw near Kakinada on Sunday. The mishap occurred on the National Highway 216 at Sitaramapuram in Tallarevu mandal of Kakinada district.
The tragic incident happened when 15 women labourers hailing from Neelapalli in Yanam were returning to Yanam after their day’s work at Prawn industry in Thallarevu mandal on Sunday afternoon.
However, as the auto was traveling in the wrong direction, the private bus collided head-on with it at Sitaramapuram, resulting in the death of six women and injuries to seven others. The condition of four of the injured is said to be critical.
The Kakinada police led from the front in extricating the dead bodies from a severely mangled auto-rickshaw and sending the bodies to the GGH in Kakinada for a post-mortem examination. The injured were shifted to Yanam government hospital. The police said that they had registered a case and were investigating.
