ACB court rejects PT warrants against Chandrababu Naidu in IRR, Fibernet cases
The court pointed out that the PT warrants would not be needed because the accused was already on bail and outside the jail.
VIJAYAWADA: The ACB special court in Vijayawada on Monday rejected AP-CID petitions seeking the arrest of former Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu on Prisoner in Transit (PT) warrants in the Inner Ring Road (IRR) and Fibernet (APSFL) scam cases.
The court pointed out that the PT warrants would not be needed because the accused was already on bail and outside the jail. The CID filed a petition seeking the arrest of Naidu in the IRR case when he was jailed in Rajamahendravaram central prison in the Rs 371 crore skill development scam case.
On October 12, 2023, the ACB special court granted permission to the Andhra Pradesh CID to issue a PT warrant for Naidu in the APSFL scam case, known as the Fibernet case. The CID was directed to present Naidu in front of the court through video conference. While the CID argued that issuance of a PT warrant gave credence to the argument of CID, Naidu’s counsel Dammalapati Srinivas argued that the Government was acting with vengeance and was trying to prolong the incarceration of the former CM in jail.
The senior lawyers representing Naidu in the Supreme Court also mentioned the issue of PT warrants by the ACB court in Vijayawada to substantiate their argument of ‘regime revenge’ against Naidu by the YS Jagan Mohan Reddy Government.
