Additional DG Ravi Shankar appointed Vizag Commissioner, Jagan to shift soon?

VISAKHAPATNAM: In an interesting move, an Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) rank officer has been appointed as a city commissioner. 1994 batch IPS officer A Ravi Shankar, who is working as Additional Director General of Vigilance and Enforcement Department, has been appointed the new Commissioner of Visakhapatnam City Police.

Ch Trivikrama varma, the current Commissioner of Visakhapatnam, has been transferred within five months of his appointment. Andhra Pradesh Chief Secretary KS Jawahar Reddy released a Government Order (GO) on Tuesday transferring several police officers on Tuesday.

The reason for such a unique appointment could likely be because of an announcement made earlier this year by Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy who said that he would start functioning from the proposed executive capital Visakhapatnam from September, 2023.

There is speculation that post of joint commissioner of police could once again be accommodated for the city if the YSRCP administration starts functioning from the city once again.

Meanwhile 2005 IPS batch CM Trivikram Verma has been transferred to Special Protection Force (SPF) as Inspector General of Police. Apart from him 2016 batch officer Vasan Vidyasagar Naidu, who was serving as Visakhapatnam City Law and Order DCP, has been transferred as Greyhounds SP. He had also taken charge as Vizag Zone I DCP during in April. In his place, K. Srinivasa Rao, who was working as Anantapur SP, was appointed as Visakhapatnam City Law and Order DCP. Overall, eleven senior IPS officers were transferred on Tuesday.

The other officers who have been transferred include Kumar Vishwajeet, the current Additional DGP of Railways. He has now been posted as Additional Director General of Vigilance and Enforcement and Ex-Officio Prinicipal Secretary, GA (V&E) Depaartment.

Octupus Superintendent of Police (SP) Siddhart Kaushal has been transferred as YSR District SP. 2011 batch officer Anburajan KKN has been posted as Anantapuramu SP.

ACB SP Krishna Rao Boddepalli has been transferred and posted as Annamayya district SP. The current district SP Gangadhar Rao has been 14th Battalion Coomandant, Anantapuramu.
