Andhra Pradesh Govt releases Rs 80 crore to address demands of Anganwadi workers

AMARAVATI: The Andhra Pradesh Government on Thursday released Rs 80 crore to immediately address the demands of Anganwadi workers. Almost a week ago, the Anganwadi workers initiated strike, demanding the long-standing issues that included salary hikes and gratuity payments.
Going through the plight of the Anganwadi workers, the State Government agreed to provide retirement bonus to senior Anganwadi staff after they turn 62 years, bonus amount of Rs 1 lakh for anganwadi workers and Rs 40,000 for anganwadi helpers. Following steps were being taken by the State Government to provide immediate relief:-
1. The Government has responded favourably by releasing funds to Anganwadi centres which are being run in rented buildings. As part of this, Rs 66.54 crores have been sanctioned for 16,575 rental buildings in rural/tribal areas and 6705 rental buildings in urban areas. The relevant rent arrears up to November 2023 have been paid to all rental centres across the state.
2. About Rs 7.81 crore was released towards consumables (soap, phenyl, etc)
3. About Rs 6.36 crore was released for 21,206 Anganwadi Centers (at the rate of Rs 3,000/- per centre) as maintenance funds. These funds are to be spent by the Anganwadi workers as per the requirement of the particular centre.
4. An official government order (GO. Ms. No 44, dated 20.12.2023) has been released increasing the age limit from 45 years to 50 years for promotion of Anganwadi helpers to Anganwadi workers. The Government has fixed the upper age limit for continuation of Anganwadi workers and helpers as 62 years.
5. Anganwadi staff on completing 62 years will get a special bonus. This aid will amount to Rs 1 lakh for Anganwadi workers and Rs 40,000 for Anganwadi helpers as end of service benefit as per the orders issued vide G.O.Ms. No:47 dated 20.12.2023.
6. Furthermore, the YSRCP Government has issued an order vide Memo No.2303564/2023/PROG-I-A1, dated 20.12.2023 by which Anganwadi workers can claim TA/DA once a month, and Anganwadi helpers can claim TA/DA bi-monthly. These orders will be implemented from the date of issue.
