AMARAVATI: The Andhra Pradesh High Court on Friday paved the way for the distribution of house site pattas to the weaker sections in the capital region of Amaravati by dismissing a petition opposing the State Government move in this regard.

The High Court struck down the petition that sought interim directions on GO No. 45 pertaining to the distribution of house site pattas to people from the weaker sections. Additional Advocate General Ponnavolu Sudhakar Reddy presented the arguments in the High Court on behalf of the Andhra Pradesh Government.

Concurring with the state government’s contention, the High Court dismissed the petition. Chief Justice Prashanth Kumar Mishra made some crucial comments during the course of the hearing on the petition. “The capital belongs to all sections of people. It is not confined to any one person or section. How can we say that people from the lower stratum of the society should not be there in the capital region?,” he asked.

While clearing the way for the distribution of house site pattas to the poor, the Chief Justice also directed the State Government to undertake this exercise in compliance with the court’s order.

“Allocation of house sites to the weaker sections in the capital region is tantamount to its development. It is not fair to ask that people from a particular section should not be granted the house sites. The lands of the capital region belong to the CRDA. Every decision of the State Government is being challenged in court. A few aspects pertaining to the capital region were challenged in high court while the Supreme Court was approached on some other aspects. We cannot prevent the government from decision-making, which is a part of its duties,” Justice Prashanth Mishra reportedly observed on this occasion.
