AMARAVATI: A ragging incident at Andhra University has sparked controversy, leading to disciplinary actions. Senior students allegedly forced first-year female students to perform inappropriate dances, recording videos of the acts, and sharing them in WhatsApp groups. The university administration intervened after the incident came to light, initiating an inquiry.

The incident involved second-year architecture students reportedly behaving inappropriately towards first-year students, coercing them to dance inappropriately in their hostel room. When the juniors expressed their inability, stating that they did not know how to dance, they were pressured to learn from male students. The recorded videos were then shared in WhatsApp groups, with other seniors reportedly commenting on them.

The first-year students were initially hesitant to report the matter to professors, fearing increased harassment from the seniors. In their uncertainty about what to do, some students approached the media, which eventually brought the issue to public attention. Following this, the college management conducted an inquiry into the matter.

As a disciplinary measure, the college administration suspended ten students for a period of 15 days. The university has emphasised its zero-tolerance policy towards ragging, aiming to prevent such incidents in the future through stricter measures.
