Anna canteen set on fire in Tenali

GUNTUR: Tension erupted in Tenali market area as unidentified miscreants set fire to Anna Canteen, located opposite Municipal Office in the early hours of Sunday.

Telugu Desam Party Guntur district secretary Paladugu Surendra, who rushed to Anna canteen upon receiving information, informed the police and the fire department. Locals frantically tried to shift the food items from inside the canteen before the fire was eventually put out.

Surendra and other TDP members alleged that the One Town Police behaved rudely with them when they were trying to save the canteen property from the fire. The police were in the process of establish the identity of the culprits and their motive behind the attempt.

The Anna Canteens have been non-functional since the YSRCP came to power in Andhra Pradesh. The TDP, under whose previous rule the Anna Canteens were launched, has recently taken it upon itself to revive the canteens to continue the meal programme for the poor.
