AP CID files petition in ACB court seeking PT warrant on Naidu in Rs 321-Cr Fibernet scam
The CID registered an FIR accusing 16 persons and two companies on September 9, 2021, of the alleged irregularities in APSFL, involving a scam to the tune of Rs 321 crore
AMARAVATI: The Andhra Pradesh Crime Investigation Department (CID) on Tuesday filed a petition in the ACB Special Court in Vijayawada seeking a PT Warrant on former Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu in the Rs 321 crore Fibernet scam.
The CID registered an FIR accusing 16 persons and two companies on September 9, 2021, of the alleged irregularities in AP State FiberNet Limited (APSFL), involving a scam to the tune of Rs 321 crore.
The project was aimed at providing internet and telephone services to all households in the State. The government of India under its Bharat Net project initially provided financial assistance of Rs 3,840 crore.
The CID initiated its investigation based on a complaint made by APSFL Chairman P Goutham Reddy. The complainant alleged that a member of the e-Governance Authority governing council saw to it that the tender for Rs 321 crore was illegally awarded to Tera Software Limited.
Following this, Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy in June 2019 constituted a Cabinet Sub-Committee on financial scams by Nara Chandrababu Naidu’s Government. The committee found out that the project costs were inflated by Rs 700 crore. The Andhra Pradesh Government then sought the CBI’s help in cracking the case but in vain.
The CID already sought the ACB court’s permission to serve PT warrant on Naidu in the attempt to murder case in the Angallu violence issue. However, the ACB court was yet to hear the plea of the CID.
