AMARAVATI: Andhra Pradesh Governor Justice Abdul Nazeer criticised the unscientific bifurcation of the erstwhile united Andhra Pradesh, stating that it was done without consulting stakeholders.

Addressing the joint session of the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly and Council, he remarked that the division has left an indelible scar on the hearts of the state's people and caused significant turmoil. He pointed out that the bifurcation led to the loss of Hyderabad, resulting in substantial economic damage.

The Governor extended his best wishes to the newly formed coalition government and reiterated the commitment to the inclusive development of Andhra Pradesh. He praised Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu for his efforts from 2014 to 2019, noting the influx of investments and the balanced development during his tenure. However, he criticised the previous YSRCP government, stating that since coming to power in 2019, the state has faced losses across various sectors, and investors have withdrawn. He highlighted that the state has plunged into debt between 2019 and 2024.

Governor Nazeer also mentioned that the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act did not provide adequate compensation for the state's development, leading to disparities in the distribution of assets and liabilities. He noted that only 46% of resources were inherited, and the loss of Hyderabad resulted in a significant revenue deficit.

He emphasised that the per capita income in the united Andhra Pradesh was Rs 1,06,176, which dropped to Rs 93,121 in the bifurcated state. The unresolved issues from the bifurcation have posed challenges, but Chandrababu Naidu's government turned the crisis into an opportunity, laying the foundation for Sunrise Andhra Pradesh. Naidu's administration focused on coastal and port-based development and created a conducive environment for manufacturing activities.

Governor Nazeer highlighted the completion of the Pattiseema project in record time and the 72% completion of the Polavaram project under Naidu's leadership. He also mentioned the development of the Amaravati region through land acquisition and the construction of new Secretariat and Assembly buildings.

The Governor's speech was interrupted by YSRCP members, who expressed their anger over the comments about the state's backwardness under their rule. They chanted slogans like "End Murder Politics... Save Democracy" and walked out in protest.
