AP High Court stays construction of houses in Amaravati R-5 zone, Jagan Govt likely to challenge stay in SC
The Andhra Pradesh Government is expected to contest the High Court's decision in the Supreme Court
AMARAVATI: In a significant setback for the Jagan Mohan Reddy Government, the Andhra Pradesh High Court issued interim orders on Thursday, putting a halt to the construction of houses by the State in Amaravati's R-5 zone.
A three-member bench of the High Court, comprising Justice DVSS Somayajulu, Justice Cheekati Manavendranath Roy, and Justice Ravinath Tilhari, heard the petitions filed by Amaravati farmers and rendered its interim decision.
The Rayapudi Dalit Bahujan Welfare JAC and Farmers Welfare Associations lodged petitions challenging Act 13/2022, GO 45, which brought amendments to the CRDA Act concerning the R5 zone, Amaravati. The Andhra Pradesh Government had distributed house pattas to economically disadvantaged individuals through Jagananna colonies in the R-5 zone, distributing approximately 1,400 acres of land within the capital region. Furthermore, house construction documents were granted to 50,793 individuals in Amaravati. The Andhra Pradesh Government is expected to contest the High Court's decision in the Supreme Court.
