AP prohibits advertising of ranks of students in Intermediate results
Oders were issued to follow the system of assigning marks to students beginning with the Intermediate public examinations in March 2020
AMARAVATI: The Andhra Pradesh Education Department issued directions on Wednesday prohibiting private Intermediate junior colleges from declaring and advertising ranks for Intermediate Public Examinations in any manner or at any level in order to protect the interests of students and parents.
According to the G.O.Ms.No.114 issued on May 5, 2020, no person associated with an educational institution or a tutorial institution shall offer or promise any guarantee of performance or success at a public examination in advance as an inducement for admission into such educational institution or tutorial institution.
Oders were issued to follow the system of assigning marks to students beginning with the Intermediate public examinations in March 2020, thereby replacing the grading system.
The Andhra Pradesh Board of Intermediate Education (BIE) said in this regard that they had received several requests from parents and other stakeholders expressing concern about educational institutions and tutorial institutions publishing ranks and other misleading information in both print and electronic media for the purpose of inducing admissions, which might leas to unfair competition and undue pressure on students.
The board further said that because the board did not publish student rankings, educational institutions and tutorial institutions should not declare or publicise student rankings in accordance with Section 7A.
As a result, the board requested that the government issued necessary orders prohibiting college administrations from declaring ranks in any form and at any level in the interest of students and parents, particularly those from underprivileged backgrounds who couldn’t afford education in such educational and tutorial institutions.
