Attack on Nandigama lawyer: Advocates boycott courts in Vijayawada, NTR district
With this, advocates in 33 courts under Vijayawada civil court premises stayed away from their duties and would continue their agitation till 5 pm on Tuesday
VIJAYAWADA: Members of the Bezawada Bar Association (BBA) on Wednesday boycotted duties and staged a protest in front of Vijayawada civil court condemning the attack of police on an advocate in Nandigama, NTR district.
With this, advocates in 33 courts under Vijayawada civil court premises stayed away from their duties and would continue their agitation till 5 pm. However, the BBA asked the advocates to appear for a hearing on behalf of former Chief Minister and TDP president N Chandrababu Naidu in the case related to Andhra Pradesh State Skill Development Corporation (APSSDC) after taking necessary permission from the association.
The agitating advocates said that a couple of days ago, Nandigama rural police attacked Nandigama Bar Association member Kota Jayaraj while he was on his way to extending solidarity to former MLA Tangirala Sowmya after she was arrested by the police. The former MLA participated in a protest in Nandigama condemning the arrest of Chandrababu Naidu in connection with a scam in APSSDC.
“We have boycotted our services in Vijayawada, condemning the attack on Jayaraj by Nandigama rural police. The agitation will be conducted till 5 pm on Tuesday. Measures should be taken by the police to prevent the recurrence of such incidents in future,” the BBA members said. Meanwhile, members from various Bar Associations in NTR and Krishna districts also abstained from working in the courts condemning the attack on Jayaraj by Nandigama rural police.
