RAJAMAHENDRAVARAM: The 42nd Mahanadu has unanimously elected Nara Chandrababu Naidu as Telugu Desam Party’s (TDP) national president. Naidu was elected as president of the party for 14 times in the past 28 years. The biennial election was held during the first day of the two-day annual convention, Mahanadu.
Kalava Srinivasulu, election Committee Chairman declared the results and also administered the oath of office by Naidu. The election committee also handed over a declaration form of the election to Naidu. In all 11 nominations were received, all in favour of Naidu.
Naidu was first elected as TDP president in 1995 after he initiated a split in the party and dislodged his father-in-law and TDP founder-president NT Rama Rao.
Summing up the first day of Mahanadu proceedings and his subsequent re-election, Naidu thanked the Telugu people all over the world and assured them that he would put all his might to further brighten their lives.
“Like NTR I also faced a tough time during my schooling days. Once I joined my post-graduation in economics, I decided to work for the economic upliftment of the Telugu people. I even rejected the offer to become Prime Minister as I wanted to limit myself to my home state,” he said.
He called upon the union government to ban all large denominations of currency for an equitable distribution of wealth. “I am demanding YSRCP to seek ban on Rs 500 and Rs 1000 notes, they can’t because the money they stashed for distribution in ensuing elections will be wasted,” he said.
Earlier Politburo member and former finance minister Yanamala Ramakrishnudu presenting the all-important political resolution said the ensuing elections will be a cash war between the cash-rich and the poor. “The poor are getting poorer in AP and other states are progressing, it is the imbalance that we have to fight against,” he reasoned.
