Coastal Andhra braces for torrential rains as low-pressure system intensifies
Low-pressure area forming over the Bay of Bengal; heavy rains expected in parts of Coastal Andhra Pradesh.
VISAKHAPATNAM: A surface circulation over North Andhra and the Bay of Bengal is expected to intensify into a low-pressure area by Thursday, leading to heavy rainfall across parts of Coastal Andhra Pradesh.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicted extremely heavy rains in some areas of North and South Coastal Andhra over the next 24 hours.
An Orange Alert has been issued for Palnadu, Eluru, and NTR districts, warning of very heavy rainfall. Meanwhile, a Yellow Alert has been issued for the districts of Alluri Sitarama Raju, Visakhapatnam, Anakapalli, Kakinada, Konaseema, East Godavari, West Godavari, and Krishna, indicating a potential for heavy rains.
Winds are expected to blow at speeds ranging from 35 to 45 km/h along the coast, making the sea conditions turbulent. Fishermen in the North Andhra coastal region are advised not to venture into the sea due to the rough conditions.
In the past 24 hours, moderate rainfall was recorded in several districts of the state, with Kaikaluru receiving 6 cm of rain and Vijayawada registering 4 cm.
