VIJAYAWADA: After waiting for days, the YSRCP has finally revealed the candidate for the Anakapalle Lok Sabha seat. Deputy Chief Minister Budi Mutyala Naidu, who was earlier named as the candidate for the Madugula Assembly seat, has now been asked to contest for the Lok Sabha polls from Anakapalle.
On March 16, 2024, the YSRCP had revealed its candidates list for 175 MLAs and 24 Lok Sabha seats and had deferred naming the candidate for the Anakapalli Lok Sabha seat. It was a clear game plan by the party supremo Jagan Mohan Reddy who was waiting for the opposition to pick its candidate first.
Why the delay?
YS Jagan initially wanted to nominate a candidate from the backward community. However the party sidelined sitting MP Beesetti Venkata Satyavathi due to tough competition. With the BJP naming CM Ramesh as its candidate and Peela Rama Kumari, the YSRCP's coordinator in the region, expressing disinterest in contesting the elections, the party decided to hunt for a winning candidate.
Finally, Deputy Chief Minister Budi Mutyala Naidu was zeroed-in as the candidate. Budi Mutyala Naidu belonging to Koppula Velama community who currently serves as the sitting MLA for Madugu. The Velama community is prominent in the region and CM Ramesh belongs to the same community and that's why Naidu was chosen as the YSRCP candidate.
Meanwhile, Eerli Anuradha has been chosen as the YSRCP MLA candidate for the Madugula seat. Anuradha is the daughter of Budi Muthyala Naidu. The selection of Budi Muthyala Naidu from the Koppula Velama community to the Anakapalli Lok Sabha seat would have a positive impact on the votebank of all the Assembly constituencies under its jurisdiction.
