ECI reviews poll preparations in Andhra Pradesh
The review meeting attended by State Election Commission officials, district collectors and SPs focused on voters list, poll preparation activities, check posts, problematic areas and other aspects
VIJAYAWADA: On day two of their visit to Andhra Pradesh, the Central Election Commission (CEC) on Saturday conducted a comprehensive review on Special Summary Revision of Voters List-2024 and the general election preparation activities at Hotel Novotel here.
The review meeting attended by State Election Commission (SEC) officials, district collectors and SPs focused on voters list, poll preparation activities, check posts, problematic areas and other aspects. On Friday, the CEC delegation reviewed the poll arrangements in 18 districts and the officials reviewed the remaining eight districts on Saturday.
Senior Deputy Election Commissioner Dharmendra Sharma asked the officials to identify the sensitive and problematic areas and strengthen the security to avoid happening untoward incidents. He asked Andhra Pradesh Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Mukesh Kumar Meena to keep a vigil on the districts where errors were noticed in the voters list.
The CEC delegation would also convene a special meeting with Chief Secretary Dr Jawahar Reddy, Director-General of Police (DGP) KV Rajendranath Reddy and other higher officials on Saturday. On day one, Dharmendra Sharma stressed on the importance of a universal adult franchise in strengthening democracy and resolving the issues raised on voter verification and better coordination to prevent electoral malpractices.
