Ex-serviceman set ablaze in sleep by wife in Annamayya district, dies

TIRUPATI: An ex-serviceman was set on fire in his sleep by his wife at their residence in Pujarivandalapalle Village in Kurabalakota Mandal in Annamaya district.

According to Mudivedu Police, the deceased was identified as Sridhar and he was living with his wife Mamata in the Pujarivandalapalle. The incident happened in the early hours of Wednesday when Sridhar was sleeping in his room. His wife Mamatha poured petrol on him and set him ablaze.

Locals and family members, who saw Sridhar caught in flames, doused the fire. However, it was too late as Sridhar succumbed to severe burn injuries while he was being shifted to Bengaluru for treatment. A case has been registered by the police and further investigation is underway. The reason for Sridhar’s wife resorting to this extreme step was not immediately known.
