VIJAYAWADA: A fisherman from Appana Ramuni Lanka in the Sakhinetipalli Mandal of Andhra Pradesh's Ambedkar Konaseema district caught a kilogram-weight Hilsa, the first of the season, in the red waters of the Godavari.

The fish was then put up for auction, attracting numerous bidders. In the heated bidding war that ensued, Barre Srinu, a former village sarpanch from Appana Ramuni Lanka, emerged victorious, purchasing the prized catch for a record-breaking Rs 24,000.

Hilsa fish, especially the variety found in the Godavari River, are famous for their taste and sold at a premium price.
