Four arrested for carrying out excavations for hidden treasure in Palanadu

VIJAYAWADA: The Machavaram police have detained four treasure hunters who are excavating the hidden treasures at temples in Machavaram and Bellamkonda mandals of Palanadu district.
According to police, as many as 10 persons started excavation works at ancient temples in Govindapuram in Machavaram mandal and Kamepalli village in Bellamkonda mandal of Palanadu for hidden treasures on Thursday night.
However, Sub-Inspector Kotaiah who got a tip-off reached the spot where the treasure hunters were carrying out digging works to retrieve the treasure and arrested the four accused.
The remaining six accused fled the spot. The four accused, identified as Srinivasa Reddy Lala Bhimla, Nageswara Rao, and Tirumala Rao, hailed from different areas.
It is learned that the accused were booked in similar cases for carrying out excavations for the hidden treasures in the same areas believing that they could find jewelry as those temples were 1000 years old.
