Geetanjali suicide: TDP social media activist arrested by Guntur police
On Thursday, the Guntur police arrested a TDP social media activist Rambabu Pasumarthi who was taken to the Mangalagiri police station.
HYDERABAD: A TDP leader from Guntur has been arrested for making inappropriate comments on social media that allegedly forced a woman Geetanjali to take her life.
Gothi Geetanjali Devi, a homemaker from Tenali in Guntur district, was a recipient of a house in Jagananna Colony under the State Government's scheme and her interviews praising the YSRCP Government went viral on social media. However, unable to bear the trolling by opposition leaders, Geetanjali jumped in front of a running train on March 7, 2024 and subsequently succumbed to injuries on March 11.
On Thursday, the Guntur police arrested a TDP social media activist Rambabu Pasumarthi who was taken to the Mangalagiri police station.
Geetanjali's suicide turned into a political slugfest between the YSRCP and the TDP. The ruling party blamed the opposition for their incessant trolling. On Tuesday, Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy had announced an ex-gratia of Rs 20 lakh to the kin of Geetanjali. He also urged the police to take strictest action against the social media users.
On the same day, speaking to the media, Guntur SP Tushar Dudi said that the police had tracked down a few social media profiles. He added that all the accused would be arrested for abettment to suicide.
