HYDERABAD: The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) today demolished illegal structures before former Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy's residence in Lotus Pond. The unauthorized constructions, meant for Jagan's security, had encroached upon the road, causing public inconvenience.

GHMC officials claimed that the action was taken following public complaints and were aimed at restoring public access. Local residents welcomed the move, noting it eased traffic congestion. However, Jagan's supporters argued that the structures were necessary for his safety.

The YSR Congress Party, headed by Jagan Mohan Reddy, had lost the Assembly elections, the results of which were declared on June 4. GHMC's motive is also linked to the election results, as Jagan Mohan Reddy is no longer the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh. Consequently, the level of security required for a CM is not deemed necessary for an ex-CM.
