VIJAYAWADA: Two-time Vijayawada MP Kesineni Srinivas (Kesineni Nani), who lost to his brother Kesineni Shivanath, announced his retirement from active politics on Monday.

First-time TDP MP Kesineni Shivanath, a debutant, defeated his elder brother, two-time MP Kesineni Nani, who represented the YSRCP, by a margin of 282,085 votes. Shivanath polled 7,94,154 votes, while Srinivas secured 5,12,069 votes.

Kesineni Nani took to 'X' on Monday and said that after careful consideration and reflection, he decided to step away from active politics and end his political journey. He thanked the people of Vijayawada and everyone who supported him throughout his political career.

He said, "After careful consideration and reflection, I have decided to step away from politics and conclude my political journey. Serving the people of Vijayawada as a Member of Parliament for two terms has been an incredible honor. The resilience and determination of the people of Vijayawada have been my inspiration, and I am profoundly thankful for their unwavering support. Although I am stepping away from the political arena, my commitment to Vijayawada remains strong. I will continue to support and advocate for the betterment of Vijayawada in any way I can. My heartfelt thanks to everyone who supported me in my political journey. As I move on to the next chapter, I carry with me cherished memories and invaluable experiences. I wish the new representatives all the best in striving for the development and prosperity of Vijayawada. I thank the people of Vijayawada once again for giving me the incredible opportunity to serve them for ten years. With heartfelt gratitude."

Nani began his political career with the Praja Rajyam Party on October 26, 2008. However, he switched to the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) in 2009.

He was elected as a Member of Parliament from the Vijayawada Lok Sabha constituency in the 2014 general elections from the Telugu Desam Party and was re-elected from the same constituency in 2019. Nani resigned as a Member of Parliament and left the TDP to join the YSRCP on January 10, 2024.
