Orange alert: IMD predicts heavy to very heavy rain for three days in Andhra Pradesh
The IMD Visakhapatnam Centre has forecast heavy rain to very heavy rain in Andhra Pradesh for three days beginning from Tuesday
VISAKHAPATNAM: Due to the influence of low pressure in the Bay of Bengal, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) Visakhapatnam Centre has forecast heavy rain to very heavy rains in Andhra Pradesh for three days beginning from Tuesday.
The IMD issued an Orange alert for Nandyal, YSR Kadapa, Kurnool, Anantapur, Sathya Sai and Annamayya districts in Rayalaseema. In Coastal Andhra, several districts include Srikakulam, Parvathipuram Manyam, Vizianagaram, Visakhapatnam, Alluri Sitaramaraju, Anakapalli, Kakinada, East Godavari, Eluru, Konaseema, West Godavari, NTR, Guntur, Krishna, Palnadu, Bapatla and Prakasam districts were issued an Orange alert. A Yellow alert was issued for Tirupati and Nellore districts.
The Visakha Cyclone Warning Centre (CWC), Visakhapatnam had announced that there is a possibility of thundershowers in some places in the coastal Rayalaseema districts. A low pressure had formed over the West Central Bay of Bengal adjacent to the Northwest Bay of Bengal and it was now centered in Southern Odisha on the Bay of Bengal bordering Northern Andhra Pradesh.
In addition to this, the surface circulation extended up to a height of 7.6 km in the area of low pressure. On the other hand, surface circulation was continuing over Telangana and the monsoon trough strengthened in association with low pressure. Heavy to very heavy rain is likely in isolated places. Thunderstorms accompanied with lightning are likely in isolated places. Strong winds with speeds reaching 30-40 kmph are likely for the next two days.
The Visakha CWC had announced that there was a possibility of thunderstorms at some places in the coastal Rayalaseema district. Gust winds of 45 to 55 km per hour were expected along the south coast. Fishermen were advised not to venture into the sea for the next four days following the surface circulation in the Bay of Bengal. In some places there is a possibility of thunder and lightning rain. Officials suggested farmers and people be alert following the thunderstorm alert for the next four days in the State.
Taking to Twitter, Sai Kiran popularly known as Vizag Weatherman said, “The next 48 hours super rains are ahead for Uttrandhra, Godavari and Krishna districts. Similarly, heavy rain is also expected for Visakhapatnam city in the next 48 hours.”
