GUNTUR: Tension prevailed in Vinukonda of Palnadu district on Thursday, when the police had opened fire to disperse the mob of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) who were involved in a clash.

According to the reports, the TDP activists took out a rally in Vinukonda demanding withdrawal of false cases against its former MLA GV Anjaneyulu. As part of their rally, the TDP activists came across a local MLA from YSRCP Brahmanaidu. Suddenly, the TDP activists pelted stones at cars, smashing the glass panes. Brahmanaidu's gunman was injured in the incident.

Soon, YSRCP workers rushed to the place and there was a clash, triggering a tense situation for nearly an hour. With the situation going out of control, the police had opened fire to disperse the mobs. Section 144 of CrPC has been imposed to maintain law and order.

Reacting to the incident, Brahmanaidu said that he was going to the Jagananna Suraksha programme when the TDP workers obstructed him. He also alleged that two days back, they had destroyed his dairy farm.

Narasaraopeta sub-divisional police officer KV Mahesh said that everything was under control in Vinukonda, after Section 144 of CrPC was imposed. About five people sustained injuries due to stone pelting. The TDP supporters had not taken any permission for the rally in which the ruckus broke out, he said.
