Raghu Ramakrishnam Raju charges Jagan, IPS officers with attempt to murder in CID custody

AMARAVATI: Undi MLA and former MP of Narasapuram, K Raghurama Krishnam Raju, lodged a complaint on Monday alleging that he was implicated in a false case, subjected to brutal torture and that an attempt was made to kill him by the previous YSR Congress regime in May 2021.

In his complaint lodged with the Guntur Superintendent of Police, Raghu Ramakrishnam Raju stated that on May 14, 2021, a false case was registered against him by the CBCID of the Andhra Pradesh Government. He claimed he was arrested without due process, including the absence of a medical examination or adherence to proper legal procedures. He added that he had recently undergone cardiac surgery and was recuperating at home when he was forcibly taken to the CBCID office in Guntur, where he was denied medical aid and subjected to physical abuse.

After the arrest, Raghu Ramakrishnam Raju alleged that he was beaten with rubber belts and lathis and was nearly suffocated. He believed these actions were intended to murder him. At around 11:30 PM, he was allegedly tortured by several officers, including IPS officers PV Sunil Kumar and Seetharamanjaneyulu. He claimed he was tied up, beaten, and threatened with death for his criticisms of the then Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy. He also alleged that his torture was filmed and made to appear as a heart attack.

Due to the severity of his condition, he was transferred to the Army Hospital, where medical reports indicated fractures and other injuries. He asserted that these injuries were falsified in reports by Dr Prabhavathi under police pressure to cover up the brutality.

"I was not given my medicines despite having had open-heart bypass surgery a few weeks before the arrest. As a sitting MP, no permission of the Speaker of the Lok Sabha was obtained before my arrest. Apprehending police torture and murder, I had Y Category Police Protection by the Central Government, which was deliberately denied to me," he alleged.

The complaint lists several people accused of these acts: PV Sunil Kumar (DG CBCID), Seetharamanjaneyulu (IPS), YS Jagan Mohan Reddy (the then Chief Minister), R Vijaya Paul (Additional Superintendent of Police—CBCID), Dr. Prabhavathi, and other doctors who allegedly falsified medical reports.

Raghu Ramakrishnam Raju alleged that Jagan Mohan Reddy orchestrated a conspiracy and demanded an immediate investigation into the accused's actions.

He demanded that a case be registered against all accused for attempted murder, custodial torture, and criminal conspiracy. He insisted that these serious criminal offences be addressed promptly and justice is served.
