RGV makes 'sudden' plunge into politics; to contest against Pawan Kalyan in Pithapuram

VIJAYAWADA: Popular and controversial filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma (RGV) surprised everybody when he decided to take a plunge into politics.
Making an announcement on Thursday, via X (formerly Twitter), RGV revealed his intention to contest in the upcoming Lok Sabha 2024 elections in Andhra Pradesh. Ram Gopal stated that he would be a candidate for the Lok Sabha election from the Pithapuram constituency in the state.

Ram Gopal Varma's announcement came just hours after Jana Sena Party (JSP) president Pawan Kalyan declared that he would contest from the Pithapuram seat. Pawan Kalyan's party and the TDP recently finalised a deal with the BJP for the upcoming Lok Sabha and Assembly elections in Andhra Pradesh.
Last year, a controversy erupted over Ram Gopal Varma's film Vyooham, which delved into the politics of Andhra Pradesh. Following this, several local leaders demanded the expulsion of the filmmaker from the State. The film focused on the events surrounding the demise of former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Rajasekhara Reddy.
