Six killed, two critically injured as SUV rams into lorry in Tirupati district

TIRUPATI: Six persons, including four women, were killed in a ghastly road accident at Srikalahasti in Tirupati district when a lorry rammed into a car on Sunday.
Two persons sustained grievous injuries when a sports utility vehicle (SUV) they were travelling in rammed into a lorry at Mitta Kandriga near Srikalahasti.
According to reports, the deceased were identifed as Ramesh, Narasimha Murthy, Rajyalakshmi, Srilatha, Akshaya and Venkataramanamma. All of them were natives of Vijayawada in NTR district and they were on the way to Srikalahasti after having a darshan in Tirumala
The injured were shifted to a nearby hospital in Srikalahasti for treatment and their condition is said to be critical. Upon knowing the information, a team of police personnel rushed to the spot. The bodies were shifted to the Government Hospital in Tirupati for a post-mortem examination.
The police suspect overspeeding could be the reason for the mishap. A case has been registered by the police and further investigations are underway. Full details of the mishap are yet to be known.
