Surprise check? Really? Dr YSR University of Health Sciences gives advance notice of it

VIJAYAWADA: In a bizarre move, Dr. YSR University of Health Sciences, Vijayawada has given advance notices to all medical institutions affiliated to Dr. YSR UHS, Vijayawada, has warned that they will conduct “surprise inspections” at their campuses. Whatever surprise it holds forth for its subjects.
The Registrar of the Dr. YSR University of Health Sciences, Vijayawada, decided to conduct inspections at all medical colleges after receiving several complaints from students and parents about a lack of services and facilities.
An official notice dated May 2, 2023, signed by the registrar of Dr. YSR University of Health Sciences, Vijayawada and addressed to all the principals of affiliated medical colleges stated that in light of complaints received from many students and parents against certain colleges regarding service deficiencies, it was. decided to conduct Surprise Inspections at all the Medical Colleges affiliated to this University.
The registrar further requested in the notice that all Principals ensured the provision of all facilities as required by the University/National Medical Commission norms and strict adherence to the University/National Medical Commission norms.
He said that the University would inspect any college at any time without prior notice and would take whatever action was deemed appropriate if any disparity was detected in the facilities or the running of the institution. Perhaps the timing was the surprise element he meant.
He suggested taking the necessary steps to ensure the institutes' seamless functioning.

Maybe, the Registrar of Dr YSR UHS has taken a leaf out of those Collectors and followed suit.
Thus, surprise is not really surprising. But, keeping the institutions on their toe is the intent behind the surprise element with a view to ensuing there is no negligence in the upkeep of the colleges at any given point time. Thank god, the registrar didn’t roll out the schedule of the impending surprise visits.
