MANGALAGIRI: Aimed at highlighting the injustice and raw deal meted out to the Backward Classes (BC) during the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) rule, Telugu Desam Party (TDP) general secretary Nara Lokesh on Friday announced that the party would launch two-month long ‘Jayaho BC’ campaign from January 4, 2024.

Speaking to media at NTR Bhavan in Mangalagiri here, Lokesh said that during the two-month long programme the TDP leaders would conduct a ground level visit to the Assembly and Parliamentary constituencies across the State to understand the plight of the BCs. A massive State-level public meeting would be conducted and followed by the release of a special manifesto for the BCs by TDP president N Chandrababu Naidu, he said.

Taking a dig at the YSRCP Government, Lokesh said that the reservation for BCs in local bodies was reduced to 10 percent. As a consequence, about 16,000 candidates from the BC communities lost the opportunity to contest in elections. About 8,000 acres of assigned lands belonging to BCs was taken back by the Government. Apart from that, the Adharana scheme was scrapped by the YSRCP Government meant for supplying work equipment, he added.

Lokesh said that though the YSRCP Government established 56 BC corporations, no funds have been given to them. Moreover, salaries were not being paid to the chairpersons of those corporations, he ridiculed. The YSRCP Government introduced GO 217 and made the situations of the fishermen community more vulnerable, he said and added that the Government even failed in supplying water to the farm sector and in subsidising the loans taken by BCs.
