TIRUPATI: Timely intervention of the Cyber Crime Cell of Tirupati Police helped a person to get back his Rs 1,56,902 which he lost from his bank account.
In an official statement issued on Wednesday, the Cyber Crime Cell Circle Inspector (CI) Ramachandra Reddy said that the victim was identified as Dr C Ramesh, a resident of New Balaji Colony in SVU campus police station limits. On June 30,2023, Ramesh received a message on his mobile phone from his Union Bank account stating that a transaction of Rs 17,500 had been made from his account. The victim immediately went to a nearby ATM to verify his account balance and came to know that a total amount of Rs 1,56,092 was missing from the said bank account, the CI said.
Ramachandra Reddy said that the victim approached the cyber crime lab office in Tirupati and lodged a complaint about the money lost from his bank account. Upon the victim lodging a complaint, cyber crime police acted swiftly and investigated the case by verifying the bank account details of the victim. Initially, the police examined the fraudulent transaction details. All those transactions were detected and were going from a POS (POINT OF SALE) transaction to an Amazon wallet and a complaint number (20207230018554) was uploaded to the National Cybercrime Reporting Portal (NCRP) portal.
The CI said that the Cyber Crime Cell team spoke to the nodal officers of Amazon and froze the fraudulent cash transaction. On Wednesday, the entire amount was re-deposited in the bank account of the victim. Public can alert the police on the Cyber Crime Helpline, 1930, within 24 hours of losing money through financial fraud. They could also register their complaints on the cybercrime website, he added.
