Tollywood actor Sudheer Varma suicide: Vizag police probing hurried funeral

VISAKHAPATNAM: The suicide of Tollywood actor Kalidindi Sudheer Varma 34 has taken a new turn after police found that the hospital and crematorium staff have failed to follow the formalities in cases of deaths occurring under suspicious circumstances.

As per the information shared by Sudheer Varma’s family and relatives, the actor, residing in Shadnagar, was admitted to a hospital in Kondapur of Hyderabad on January 18 after he consumed poison. On January 20, he was subsequently shifted to LG Hospital in Visakhapatnam where his family resides. Sudheer Varma died on Monday morning while undergoing treatment. The family members claimed that he died by suicide due to health issues.

However, the LG hospital staff did not send the body for a post-mortem examination and handed it over to the family while the Gnanapuram crematorium staff showed their negligence in adhering to the rules. In cases of deaths occurring under mysterious circumstances, last rites are allowed at the crematorium only after the submission of the death report and autopsy report. The crematorium staff allegedly did not follow this rule. Also, the family going ahead with the last rites at 2.30 pm on Monday itself also sparked a bit of controversy.

The Maharani police in Visakhapatnam, who were furious over the incident, called the hospital staff to the police station and questioned them. As the doctors failed to give appropriate answers, the Maharanipet CI Ramanamurthy said that they were investigating the behavior of the hospital staff, family members and the role of crematorium staff in conducting the funeral in a hurry.

Sudhir Varma made his entry into Tollywood with the film Kundanapu Bomma and went on to bag roles in Second Hand, Shootout at Alair and many web series. Tollywood actors, friends, and family members are in shock over the untimely death of Varma.
