AMARAVATI: A delegation of Government school students who recently toured the United States of America (USA) met Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy at his camp office in Tadepalli on Monday.

All the 10 students headed to the USA for a fortnight on a State-sponsored exposure trip to be part of a United Nations (UN) conference on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The officials introduced the Chief Minister to the students and their parents.

YS Jagan enquired about their experiences in the US where they visited the World Bank, Columbia University and IMF and interacted with the officials besides participating in the International Youth Conference.

Officials told the Chief Minister that a total of 10 students were selected for the US trip after conducting a competitive examination and testing their English vocabulary for 126 students who fared well in Class X under Jagananna Aanimuthyalu.

The students told YS Jagan that Nadu-Nedu gave a face-lift to their schools and when they spoke about the Swechha programme in their interactions in the US, several officials and students expressed their interest.

Highlighting the need for education for a better life in society, the Chief Minister told the students that they would find better placements in the job market only when they could compete with others globally and hoped they had learnt some good lessons on how to stand on their own and lead better lives in future.

"The experience of a US trip will leave an indelible impression on their minds and help them reach global platforms besides strengthening their resolve to pursue higher education at foreign universities," he said.

YS Jagan said that universities and institutions like Columbia, Warton and LSE offer 21 globally acclaimed courses and if students get seats on such courses in highly ranked 350 universities and colleges, the Government would support students by extending financial help up to Rs. 1.20 crore through Videshi Vidya Deevena.

"Students can also fulfil the dream of becoming CEOs of good companies after completing education. They can also help other students. The experience will guide the students in assessing how the world is advanced and how backward we are and help them in competing with others," the Chief Minister said.

During the interaction, YS Jagan asked the students to identify their areas of interest, find out the best colleges teaching such subjects in the world and prepare well to get seats in them so that they could get expertise in the chosen subjects.

"Students should also learn about the examinations like GRE, G-Mat and TOEFL and prepare to face such examinations from the very beginning. You must develop a vision after completing your IIIT,” he said.

The Chief Minister said that students would enhance the status of the State to lead a better life and guide others if they fulfil their dream and achieve seats on their chosen courses in well-ranked universities.

"The State Government has signed an MoU with ed-X to introduce as many as 1,800 new courses which are not available in our syllabus. Students should work hard and attain good positions in life and provide inspiration to others. It will also help get certificates from institutions like MIT and Harvard University," YS Jagan said.

On the occasion, the Chief Minister asked the officials to ensure that the Government school and college students appear for the GRE and G-MAT examinations free of cost and handhold them in this regard by providing required study materials and necessary coaching. A special officer should be appointed to guide them at every step, he added
