GANNAVARAM: The Vallabhaneni Vamsi versus the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) feud took a violent turn on Monday after a group of the Gannavaram MLA’s followers vandalised the opposition party’s office here and set fire to a few cars.

Vallabhaneni Vamsi, who was elected in 2019 from Gannavaram Assembly Constituency on a TDP ticket, has been the prime target of the opposition party leaders ever since he switched his allegiance to the ruling YSRCP. There has been a non-stop war of words between the two sides which only reached a flashpoint in the last three days.

As tempers ran high, a group of men, suspected to be the followers of Vallabhaneni Vamsi, went on a rampage inside the TDP office premises. While vandalising the office, they damaged the furniture before setting fire to a few cars parked on the premises. The area where the TDP office was located was in the grip of tension amid fears of a full-scale clash between the two sides.

Full details of the incident are awaited.

Chandrababu Naidu condemns attack, seeks Governor's intervention

TDP National President Nara Chandrababu Naidu strongly condemned the attack carried out on his party's Gannavaram office on Monday. Asking the Governor to immediately intervene, he wondered what the State Police were doing instead of maintaining law and order.

"I strongly condemn the attack carried out on the TDP office in Gannavaram by the YSRCP goons. YS Jagan, who has turned the state into a cauldron, is certain to be reduced to ashes in the same fire. The law and order machinery has completely collapsed in the state. Has the State Police been wound up or merged into the ruling party? Incidents of this nature reflect the faction-like mentality of the Chief Minister. The Governor should immediately intervene and take stern action against the culprits," he said.

TDP National General Secretary Nara Lokesh too came down heavily on the YSRCP for the Gannavaram attack. "Every attack that is being carried out against the TDP at the behest of YS Jagan is like a brick for the grave of the YSRCP. The police inaction, remaining mute spectators to the torching of vehicles at the TDP's office, is a blot on democracy. The bad time has started for the notorious Gannavaram criminal (in an insinuation of Vallabhaneni Vamsi), who has outwitted Sisupaala in committing sins. The TDP leaders and cadre (of Gannavaram) should not be unnerved by these incidents. The party would stand by you," he said.
