VIJAYAWADA: Driving License (DL) and Registration Certificate (RC) issued by the Andhra Pradesh Transport Department goes digital on the lines of Telangana’s RTA m-wallet.

Orders in this regard were issued by the Andhra Pradesh Transport Commissioner MK Sinha on Saturday to the police and transport department officials to accept digital records of vehicle users during their checks.

The new initiative of paperless driving license and digital RC cards issued by the transport department would replace the old system of printing and issuing of DL and RC cards to vehicle users, according to transport department officials.

“So far, vehicle users in Andhra Pradesh have paid an application fee of Rs 200 and postal charges of Rs 25 for each card. The new digital cards will be issued free of cost to the vehicle users. Those who have already paid will be given digital cards soon. The Central Government has made all services online with the 'Vahan Parivar' initiative. Many states have stopped issuing DL and RC cards and bringing documents in digital form. Similar procedure is being followed in the State,” said NTR district Deputy Transport Commissioner (DTC) M Purendra.

Vehicle users could download paperless details of their DL and RC from the transport department website by downloading form 6 or 23 or else from AP RTA CITIZEN android mobile application. They could show the details of their DL and RC to the police and transport department during the checks, which could also be stored on their mobile phones under the Digilocker system instead of producing original RTA documents, the DTC said.
