HYDERABAD: The Vijayawada Railway Court, on Monday in its verdict on the 2016 Tuni train burning case in East Godavari district, dismissed the case. The railway court which completed the hearing of arguments in the case earlier adjourned the verdict to May 1 and announced the verdict today.
It is known that a huge public meeting was held in Tuni on January 31, 2016, under the leadership of Kapu movement leader Mudragada Padmanabham demanding Kapu reservations. A large number of Kapu leaders from Telugu states attended the meeting wherein tension erupted after the protestors turned violent and set the Ratnachal Express train on fire at Tuni Railway station.
The railway police booked a case against Kapu movement leader Mudragadda Padmanabham along with the current minister Dadisetty Raja, actor Jeevi, and a total of 41 people and the trial went on for years. On the day of the verdict on Monday, Kapu movement leader Mudragada Padmanabham and many others reached the railway court. The Vijayawada Railway Court said that the case was dismissed after examining 20 of the 24 witnesses.
