VISAKHAPATNAM: In a well-coordinated effort, the Visakhapatnam Police, under the auspices of City police Commissioner CH Srikanth, facilitated the transportation of a human heart from Sheila Nagar KIMS Icon Hospital to the airport by setting up a green channel for an ambulance. From the airport, the live organ was transported by a flight to Sri Padmavati Children's Heart Centre in Tirupati.

The live heart belonged to Janjuru Sanyasamma (48) pronounced brain dead after a fall from a two-wheeler while traveling with her husband Ananda Rao on January 16. As the husband, a BHEL employee, and the relatives lost hope of Sanyasamma’s recovery, the family members agreed to donate her organs.

The doctors with the help of the police made all the arrangements to shift the organs to Sri Padmavati Children's Heart Centre in Tirupati. The relatives of the donor expressed contentment over the donation of the organs, saying that Sanyasamma would remain alive this way even after her death.
