YS Viveka murder: CBI quizzes YS Avinash Reddy, father, aide on CDR, Rs 40-cr supari deal

HYDERABAD: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), which is probing the murder case of former MP YS Vivekananda Reddy, has focused on the call data records (CDR) of YSRCP MP YS Avinash Reddy and other accused in the case.

The investigating agency, which questioned YS Avinash Reddy and his father YS Bhakar Reddy and their aide Uday Kumar Reddy for the third consecutive day on Friday, examined in detail the CDR information to establish their alleged role in the sensational murder case that took place on the intervening night of March 14 and 15 in 2019.

Apart from verifying the CDR details, the investigators also focused on the financial transactions of all the accused. Following allegations that a Rs 40-crore ‘supari’ deal was arrived at to kill Vivekananda Reddy, the Central investigating agency has also examined the bank account details of the accused.

The alleged role of YS Avinash Reddy in the deal was also examined thoroughly. With the help of a questionnaire prepared to grill them, the CBI was believed to have asked the father-son duo and Uday Kumar Reddy as to why they wanted to portray Vivekananda Reddy’s murder as a heart-attack death.

The investigators posed several questions on the same issue stating that Vivekananda Reddy suffered serious head injuries that were inflicted with a sharp-edged weapon. An attempt was made to cover the injured portion with a cotton bandage in the bathroom where the body was found in Vivekananda Reddy’s house in Kadapa.

Tampering with the evidence was another crucial area that the investigators focused on during their questioning. Another key factor that was emphasised by the CBI was the so-called troubled relationship between the families of YS Avinash Reddy and Vivekananda Reddy.

There were rumours in Kadapa that YS Vivekananda Reddy was upset with YS Avinash Reddy’s family after the former lost the MLC elections many years ago in the undivided Andhra Pradesh and since then the two families were reported to be at loggerheads.
