NEW DELHI: Dealing yet another blow to YSRCP MP YS Avinash Reddy in connection with the YS Vivekananda Reddy murder case, the Supreme Court on Tuesday refused to intervene in his petition seeking an anticipatory bail. The counsel of the beleaguered Kadapa MP were instead advised to file a petition with the Telangana High Court vacation bench for this purpose.

The Supreme Court ruling came in response to a fresh petition filed by the MP’s advocates seeking anticipatory bail for their client. While directing the Telangana High Court Vacation Bench to hear YS Avinash Reddy’s anticipatory bail petition on May 25, 2023, the apex court also rejected the MP’s request seeking directions restraining the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) from arresting him until the disposal of his anticipatory bail plea by the Telangana High Court Vacation Bench.

The latest ruling of the Supreme Court came in as a huge setback for YS Avinash Reddy and his legal team, who have been exploring all legal options for immunity from any decisive action by the CBI in the sensational murder case.

High tension and drama prevailed in Kurnool throughout Monday amid speculation that the YSRCP MP was about to be detained by the CBI officials who have been camping in the district headquarter town since Sunday night. YS Avinash Reddy is in Kurnool to be by the side of his mother Lakshmamma who was being treated in the ICU of Viswa Bharathi Hospital in Kurnool following a massive heart attack she suffered a few days ago in Pulivendula. Citing his mother’s ill-health and critical condition, the Kadapa MP not only skipped the CBI questioning in Hyderabad on Monday but also sought more time, at least until May 26, 2023, to appear before the central agency for further questioning in the YS Vivekananda Reddy murder case.
