YSRCP delegation meets EC, appeals to initiate action against dual voters
Leaders from the YSRCP and the TDP have knocked on the doors of Andhra Pradesh Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Mukesh Kumar Meena at the Secretariat in Velagapudi on Wednesday
AMARAVATI: With just a few months left for the Assembly elections in the State, the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) and the Telugu Desam Party (TDP), the two major political parties, have set their focus on electoral lists. Leaders from the YSRCP and the TDP have knocked on the doors of Andhra Pradesh Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Mukesh Kumar Meena at the Secretariat in Velagapudi on Wednesday.
A YSRCP delegation comprising Ministers Jogi Ramesh and Merugu Nagarjuna, MLC Lella Appi Reddy and MLA Malladi Vishnu met Mukesh Kumar Meena and filed a complaint against the irregularities of the TDP. The YSRCP leaders also appealed to the CEO to verify the dual voters in AP and Telangana and initiate necessary action against them.
Speaking to media, Jogi Ramesh said that the TDP and Jana Sena were aware of their defeat in the upcoming Assembly elections in the State and resorting to mudslinging on the YSRCP of deleting names from voters lists. "In democracy a person should have only a single vote," he said.
Nagarjuna said that around 16 lakh duplicate votes were identified in the 2018 Assembly elections in the State and the same was informed to the CEO. “Several voters possessing dual voter cards are ready to exercise their right to franchise in AP after voting in the Telangana Assembly elections on November 30. We have submitted a detailed list of dual voters' lists to the CEO to initiate necessary action against them,” he said.
Meanwhile, a delegation led by TDP president K Atchannaidu also met Mukesh Kumar Meena at Velagapudi. He alleged that eight district collectors in the State were working at the behest of the YSRCP Government. A complaint was filed against the district collectors of Srikakulam, Konaseema, Guntur, Annamayya, Bapatla, Tirupati and others with substantial evidence, he said.
