AP Government issues order recognising Urdu as second language
The Government of Andhra Pradesh has issued a notification recognising Urdu as the second official language in the state.
HYDERABAD: The Government of Andhra Pradesh has issued a notification recognising Urdu as the second official language in the state. With the recognition of Urdu as the second official language, the official activities of the state government, and correspondence will continue in Telugu as well as Urdu. Urdu is already the second official language in Telangana.
Minister Amjad Basha hailed the move and said, "Urdu is not a language of one religion only." He thanked Chief Minister YS Jagan for giving equal status to Urdu on a par with Telugu.
The Official Languages (Amendment) Bill, 2022 was introduced in the last Assembly session and was passed unanimously by the House. Apart from this, the AP Minorities Component, Financial Resources, Expenditure Allocation and Utilization Act, 2022, was introduced for the safety and social upliftment of minorities in the state.
