APSRTC bus caught in flood waters; 30 passengers survive scare

ANANTAPUR: A major disaster was averted after an APSRTC bus, stuck in flood water, was pulled out to safety near Donekal village of Vidapanakal in Anantapur district of Andhra Pradesh on Monday.

According to reports, there were 30 passengers, including the driver and conductor, inside the bus when the vehicle was stranded in the middle of a stream. No casualties were reported from the incident as all the passengers quickly disembarked the bus. With the help of locals, the bus was pulled out of the flood waters.

The local people pressed a tractor into service to drag the bus out of the stream.

A combination of reasons were stated to have caused the incident. The bus was in poor condition and, added to it, was its outdated engine, which contributed to the vehicle getting stranded in the middle of the stream.
