Low pressure: IMD warns of heavy rains in Coastal AP, Rayalaseema
The IMD predicted very heavy rains for Coastal Andhra Pradesh due to low-pressure in the West Central Bay of Bengal.
AMARAVATI: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), on Thursday, predicted heavy to very heavy rains along with thunderstorms for Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Rayalaseema districts due to low-pressure in the West Central Bay of Bengal.
Stating that the low-pressure area would increase in the next 24 hours, officials of the Weather department said that Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, Visakhapatnam, East Godavari, Guntur and Prakasam districts would witness heavy rains. Widespread rains were also expected in Rayalaseema and Nellore district. The fishermen were warned not to go fishing as the sea could be turbulent.
The first danger warning was issued at Prakasam Barrage in Vijayawada with the increase in inflows from the upper reaches due to the impact of cyclonic circulation. As many as 70 gates were lifted to release 4.01 lakh cusecs of water downstream against the total inflow of 4.15 lakh cusecs.
